Revamped structure for Mitcham

Mitcham Council is reforming its Committee structure as part of the implementation of this South Australian City’s Strategic Plan. The need to further streamline decision processing by Council Committees and maintain community participation in decisions affecting the City is paramount to this restructure.

“The reformed Committee structure accurately reflects the changed organisation structure of the City of Mitcham, implemented last year,” said Mayor Joy O’Hazy. The four Committees will enable elected members to effectively represent our community and encourage community participation. This new Committee structure will provide a strong start for the newly elected Council in May.”

The four Committees include Environment, City Management, Community and the Planning Authority. They will come into effect at the first meeting of the new Council, after Local Government elections in May.

They will replace the six existing Committees of Administration and General Purpose, Finance and Policy, Community Services, Works and Services, Health and Public Safety and the Planning and Building Application Committee.

All Council members will participate on each of the four Committees. This will enable all Council members to be fully briefed on key strategic issues dealt with by the Committees and will encourage expanded debate on issues.

Mitcham Council has a strong commitment to maintaining public access to Committee meetings and current practices will continue with a public question time and the opportunity to speak when general City business is raised at each meeting.
