Something for everyone …

The 9th National Local Government Engineering Conference, in conjunction with the International Congress of Public Works, draws its theme from the very reason for Local Government’s existence; to deliver the community’s aspirations.

Speakers from Australia, the United States and New Zealand will address engineering management, technical and Local Government reform issues. The program has been structured so that all delegates can participate in sessions addressing Local Government reform and how Local Government can be improved to meet the community’s aspirations.

Engineering management and technical issues will be addressed in multiple streams allowing delegates to concentrate on topics most relevant to their interests, needs and responsibilities.

David Rhodes, Public Works Director, City of Boulder, Colorado, will deliver the keynote address titled “Creating Quality of Living in your Municipality”. David’s address will set the initial challenge for delegates and provide a clear focus on Local Government’s role; today and in the future.

The stimulating technical program will be supported by technical tours designed to meet the needs of practitioners and elected representatives. An exciting social program will introduce the culture of Melbourne to visitors, while the accompanying partners’ program is designed with one requirement in mind; to be memorable. The commonality of purpose of elected representatives, senior managers and technicians has been reflected in interactive sessions structured to meet your needs.

The Carlton Crest, the conference venue is located metres from Albert Park Lake, parkland and the Grand Prix circuit. The famous Melbourne trams will be available to delegates with a free Zone 1 travel pass for those wishing to visit other attractions or take accommodation at venues beyond a pleasant walk to the conference venue.

The Conference Organising Committee has other surprises in store for delegates to make the 9th National Local Government Engineering Conference productive, enjoyable and memorable.

The Organising Committee has pleasure in extending a very warm invitation to all persons with interests in Local Government engineering and ensuring that they deliver the community’s aspirations. A special invitation is extended to elected representatives as the partnership between all participants in Local Government is an excellent source of motivation for leading successful municipalities.

Ian Robins, Chairman Organising Committee
