Wagga Wagga markets itself

Wagga Wagga City Council in southern NSW has become proactive in promoting itself as an ideal place for business investment. Centrepiece of the City’s marketing strategy was a two day promotion during September. Titled Wagga Wagga WorldWide Industry, it was staged at the Country Embassy in Sydney.

The promotion was backed up by a campaign which saw personal invitations delivered to 1900 industries, trade houses, consulates, banks, accounting firms and others, attracting large numbers of people. Opened by State Treasurer, Michael Egan, the promotion centred on three themes summing up Wagga’s advantages, industry and infrastructure; research, education and training facilities; and lifestyle.

“What we want to get across is that Wagga Wagga has facilities comparable to the metropolitan area when it comes to shopping, hospitals and community services but we still have a country atmosphere,” said, Con Constantinou, Council’s Economic Development Manager.

He said while Wagga Wagga was fortunate in having two defence bases and a university, it did not want to rely on them. The promotion was jointly run with 13 local organisations including the CSIRO, Laminex, Country Maid Quality Foods and Kendall Airlines. Deputy Mayor Kay Hull said that Council was thrilled with the response.

“The best thing to come out of the Wagga Wagga Worldwide profile is several leads for investment in the City,” she said. The display used in the promotion can be reused and may be set up in Wagga Wagga itself in the future, to educate local residents about the many advantages from living and working in this City.
