Rezoning for jobs

In a bid to stimulate local economic growth, The Hills Shire Council intends to rezone its North Rocks Employment Precinct.

Council has recommended that the proposal for the rezoning of the precinct from IN1 General Industrial to B6 Enterprise Corridor be finalised.

The proposal prohibits ‘shop top housing’, thereby increasing redevelopment opportunities and employment diversity.
Current activities in the area will be able to continue.
The proposed rezoning seeks to reduce the minimum lot size from 8,000m2 to 4,000m2.

The then Mayor Andrew Jefferies said the proposal will stimulate local business.

“The rezoning will create positive change within the precinct and deliver more jobs that are closer to home for Hills Shire residents.
“Rejuvenation of the North Rocks Employment Precinct will not only enable new and exciting business prospects to access the area, but will also allow long– standing businesses to continue their operation in an enhanced environment.”

The then Mayor Jefferies said the decision was reached after a considered consultation period.

“As the nature of the economy has changed, Council has considered ways in which they can stimulate local business and create new jobs and this rezoning is a result.

“I welcome this proposal with great enthusiasm and I look forward to the future benefits that the changes will bring for the precinct and our community.”
