Footpaths around the country are bustling as a result of today’s National Ride2School Day.
This is expected to be the biggest year of the nationwide initiative, created by Bicycle Network.
The event is supported by several state and local governments and aims to promote health and activity in children.
In Queensland, Isaac Regional Council is encouraging parents and carers to leave the car at home and hit the pavement.
Chief Executive Officer Rod Ferguson said the day is a great reminder about the benefits of physical activity in children.
“Ride2School Day is more than just a ‘day’, it aims to spark conversation and change around physical inactivity in young Australians.
“Whether your child prefers biking, scootering or skateboarding, please encourage them to jump on board with the event and help promote health and wellness throughout our communities.”
The Council is co-sponsoring Ride2School Day activities at Glenden and Nebo State Schools.
“We will be running colouring in competitions and create-your-own poster competitions with winners receiving a new bike and helmet or scooter and helmet kindly donated by Pacific National,” Mr Ferguson said.
