Rockhampton Regional Council has introduced technology to efficiently report on safety risks and incidents on-site, without needing paperwork.
The Queensland council recently adopted Riskware, a risk intelligence application that is used for the logging and management of hazards and incidents, audits, and the rehabilitation of injured workers.
Chief Executive Officer Evan Pardon said the technology is used across the organisation.
“Council has adopted the Riskware system to enhance risk management process and to allow users at all levels within Council to log, manage and track incident and hazard reports through to resolution.”
Coordinator Safety and Training, Tony Hauenschild, and his team have been instrumental in the implementation of the system, which has been rolled out gradually, to move away from the previous paper-based reporting system.
“Overall, the system allows workers to report incidents and hazards by using their iPhone or iPad onsite and has eliminated the previous practice of completing paper-based forms.
“Supervisors and managers are able to access incident and hazard data, including statistics and actions that are under their area of responsibility immediately.”
Supervisors and managers now generate their own statistical and management reports. This practice has significantly reduced the time consuming task of generating reports manually.
Riskware has also assisted in monitoring safety performance levels of the organisation from a supervisory and management perspective.
Mr Pardon commended the organisation in taking safety seriously.
The commitment and attention to the high level of implementation of its safety management system by the Safety Team and the wider organisation was evident with the presentation of a Silver Award from Local Government Workcare.
“With the implementation of the Riskware system, Council is aiming to improve the current 76 percent compliance rate at its next external audit due later this financial year and win the coveted Gold Award by achieving in excess of the 85 percent milestone,” Mr Hauenschild said.
“As a result of introducing the system in June 2015, Council is now able to identify and manage safety in our workplaces much more proactively, and in turn this has seen the safety awareness and culture improve across all areas of Council.”
