Willoughby City Council is calling on members of the community to make a Fatality Free Friday pledge.
Willoughby Mayor Gail Giles-Gidney will launch the event on 23 May 2014 at Chatswood Mall.
As part of the event, a giant inflatable car will be on display for community members to sign.
Information on road safety issues will also be available on the day including pedestrian safety, road rules, older drivers, child restraints and used car safety ratings.
An Australian Road Safety Foundation initiative and supported by Transport for NSW, Fatality Free Friday draws attention to the role people can play in making NSW roads safer.
It aims to foster community ownership, provide information on road safety issues and encourage the community to make a significant difference in reducing road trauma. The aim of the campaign is to have not a single road death in Australia for just one day.
Since its inception in 2007, Fatality Free Friday has continued to grow and is now recognised as Australia’s only national community-based road safety program.
“As drivers, riders or pedestrians, we all share a responsibility in making our roads as safe as we can for everyone,” said Mayor Giles-Gidney.
“I urge the whole community to make the pledge on Friday 23 May and help significantly reduce the risk of accidents and fatalities on our roads.”
