Warringah Council announced today that it has been honoured for Best Community Category website in the 18th Annual Webby Awards.
Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honour” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), is the leading international award honouring excellence on the Internet.
“For Warringah Council to be recognised out of a field of 12,000 entries from more than 60 countries in an incredible achievement,” said Warringah Mayor, Michael Regan.
The new site integrates more than 35 different platforms and businesses including Glen Street Theatre, four libraries, an Aquatic Centre and extensive planning and development information on ICON software.
“The site features all the tools and information you need for living, working and playing in Warringah and it adapts to whatever device you are using, making it the best possible user experience,” said Warringah’s Group Manager of Marketing and Communications, Graham Middleton.
David Barrett from Demonz, the web developers responsible for creating the website, said that they tried to capture the energy and vitality that exists in Warringah and its people.
“Working with Council, Generation Alliance/We Think and the local community to bring this vision to life online has been a real team effort and highly rewarding.
“We look forward to seeing this important foundation grow over time as Warringah also grows.”
The IADAS, which nominates and selects The Webby Award Winners, is comprised of web industry experts, including media mogul Arianna Huffington, Skype CEO Tony Bates, Mozilla CEO and Chair Mitchell Baker, Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom and mobile-phone inventor Martin Cooper.
The site features state of the art functionality – allowing people to access information easily from all mobile devices including tablets and phones. Increased integration of Council’s data and services, including libraries and planning information, makes it easier for the community to navigate information.
Real time financial data on council operations will also be published in the coming months.
