A thermal insulation upgrade to the roof of the local entertainment and convention centre will save the Mackay Regional Council between $10,000 and $15,000 per year.
Economic Development and Planning Committee member Councillor Fran Mann said council would apply a thermal insulation coating to the roof of the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC).
“Council is committed to achieving cost reductions through energy efficiencies,” Cr Mann said.
“The thermal coating will significantly reduce the MECC’s cooling costs, allowing council to reduce its energy bill in an environment where electricity prices continue to rise.
“In addition to the environmental benefits, the work will extend the life of the roof by more than 10 years.
“This is pretty impressive considering the MECC’s roof is about 30 years old.”
Work will begin early July and will be carried out in two stages, to be completed by November, weather permitting.
This project is expected to support four existing jobs in the Mackay region and is part of the $200 million State Government-funded Works for Queensland funding initiative.
