Local jobs for local people

Hume City Council in outer-metropolitan Melbourne has developed a program to transform the lives of unemployed residents and increase economic participation at the local level.

The council, in partnership with the Scanlon Foundation, has developed a handbook – ‘Local jobs for local people’ – to provide local government leaders with the practical knowledge needed to implement the Hume program model in their own communities.
It will be of particular interest to councils wanting to: increase the wellbeing, social inclusion and economic participation of their residents; increase engagement with local employers and developers, and enhance the overall economic prosperity of their community.

The content may also be of interest to federal and state government decision-makers, employers, employment service providers, vocational training organisations and other organisations working to address unemployment and improve social cohesion.
The handbook is available for download from welcomingcities.org.au
