Cobb & Co coach service anniversary

Maranoa Regional Council is inviting people to take a journey of a lifetime with the Cobb & Co Commemorative Trail Ride, celebrating the 90th anniversary of the last Cobb & Co Coach Service in Australia.

The journey will commence on Saturday 23 August from Surat and will travel along the Cobb & Co Way to arrive in Yuleba on Sunday 24 August.

Led by a team of five horses, the replica Cobb and Co Coach, usually housed at the Cobb and Co Changing Station Museum in Surat, will be the feature of the event.

Councillor Ree Price, Portfolio Chair for Tourism, said as one of the regions major events, Council is proud to support the ride that is a wonderful initiative to help preserve Cobb & Co’s history within the region.

“In preparation for this year’s event Council has been working with local community groups, Yuleba Development Group and Surat and District Development Association to preserve the history of Cobb and Co by installing plaques along the trail telling it’s story, promoting the event and eagerly preparing the coach to ensure its readiness for the journey.

“As the Maranoa is home to the last Cobb & Co Coach Service in Australia, it is very fitting that such an iconic event is held in our region.

“It will be a fantastic opportunity for visitors and locals alike to come together to celebrate such a fantastic part of our history.”

Participants are invited to join the celebration by riding horses, traveling in cars, or when the coach stops for a rest, take in the scenery.
