The new seven-level City of Perth Library is taking shape in the Cathedral and Treasury Precinct.
The formwork to the level four suspended slab is being completed and the project is on target to open the library in April 2015.
The off-site design and fabrication of the façade is also progressing well, with the circular structure expected to be completed soon.
When completed, the state of the art City of Perth Library and public plaza will cover some 3,500 sqm and will include meeting rooms, gallery spaces, café/tenancy and amenities.
It will also incorporate sustainable design features.
The City of Perth Library currently operates from temporary premises in Gordon Stephenson House, on the corner of Murray Street Mall.
Library operations are being reviewed and preparations made for streamlined self-service facilities at the new premises.
The library and public plaza project is the City of Perth’s contribution to the Cathedral and Treasury Precinct which includes the refurbishment of the Old Treasury Buildings into a boutique hotel by FJM Property, a 33-floor office tower by Mirvac and the refurbishment of the former Public Trustees Building by the Perth Diocesan Trustees.
Doric Contractors Pty Ltd is constructing the building to a design by Kerry Hill Architects.
