BMX world cup hosts

In a major sporting coup Bathurst, New South Wales and Shepparton, Victoria, have been selected to each host a round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in February 2020, the first time the event has been held in Australia.

The event will be a qualifier for the Australian team for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

“For Bathurst and Shepparton to host rounds of the UCI World Cup, the first time the event has been brought to Australia, is a huge coup for both our communities.

“Bathurst invested in the construction of a world class BMX facility. This announcement is an endorsement of the quality of the infrastructure we have as well as the city’s ability to host major events.

“Bathurst has previously hosted Oceania and National BMX events at the track.

“It is exciting to be selected to host a world cup event which will bring the best riders from around the world to Bathurst to compete in the lead up to the 2020 Olympics.”

BMX Australia Chief Executive Officer, Martin Shaw, said the announcement was a shot in the arm for BMX racing in Australia.

“The efforts of Bathurst Regional Council and Greater Shepparton City Council to procure these world-class events is to be applauded and a just reward for the investment they have made in their wonderful facilities.”
