Homage to the Anzacs

A town remembers with special light show commemoration for the WW1 centenary.

A light projection show, Homage to the Anzacs, launched on Good Friday in Memorial Square, Colac, Victoria, has been deemed a resounding success.

A reel of images projected onto the town’s Anzac Memorial on a 10 minute loop from 6pm to midnight ran from Good Friday through to Anzac Day.

Multimedia artist Matthew Bonner created the reel from a collection of photographs gathered with help from the community including the Colac RSL and the Colac and District Family History Group.

Colac Otway Shire Mayor, Jason Schram, said, “The tribute was a great success which brought our community together and created a special tribute at Colac’s Memorial Square.

“We have an impressive War Memorial and to have hosted an event like this, which encouraged visitors to Colac was a really significant tribute to our servicemen and women.

“Colac Otway Shire Council was successful in gaining a $40,000 grant through the Veterans Branch in the Department of Premier and Cabinet for funding the Victorian Remembers Major Grant Program 2018 – 2019 towards implementation of the project which commemorated Anzac Day 2019.

“Colac Otway Shire would like to thank the Victorian Government for its major contribution towards our Homage to the Anzacs, and the funding application support provided to the Shire by Colac RSL, Colac and District Family History Group, Colac and District Historical Society, Colac Cemetery and St Mary’s Parish.”
