It was a proud day for Gladstone Regional Council, Queensland, on 16 October last year, when the organisation won an award at the Asset Management Council’s Asset Management Excellence Awards.
The national awards recognise excellence in the management of physical assets, while also celebrating the success of individuals or teams.
Six award categories were presented at a virtual awards ceremony with Council winning the Asset Management Diversity Award.
The Diversity category recognises and promotes the positive contribution made by organisations that demonstrate a holistic and long-term commitment to diversity within the Asset Management community. This category also covered workforce diversity.
Council’s submission highlighted its diverse portfolio of assets and range of internal and external stakeholders, including community members, local businesses and organisations, sporting groups and industry.
Chief Executive Officer, Leisa Dowling said it was exciting to win the award given the calibre of competition.
“It was very pleasing and a fitting way to recognise the efforts put in by our people who have assisted in our journey towards diversity in asset management.
“As one of only two local governments listed as finalists among a group featuring major companies and organisations, this award gives Council employees great motivation and encouragement that their work is appreciated and recognised.
“Council’s vision to Connect, Innovate and Diversify has helped position our organisation to achieve great outcomes and foster a culture that strives to connect with the community, promote innovation and celebrate diversity.
“This award also demonstrates the positive progress Council has made in asset management since the organisation was restructured in 2018, when business units were aligned to encourage innovation and a different way of thinking.”
Gladstone Region Mayor, Matt Burnett said the award was a great achievement for Gladstone Regional Council and congratulated all employees involved in the process.
