Residents of Melton, Victoria, now have more training and employment support, and health and wellbeing services available to them with the new
$4.7 million Melton Central Community Centre officially open.
City of Melton Mayor, Kathy Majdlik and State Member for Melton Steve McGhie were on hand to mark the opening,
The project was the result of a partnership between Melton City Council and the Victorian Government, with the government’s Growing Suburbs Fund contributing $2 million to the redevelopment and Council contributing $2.7 million.
The centre on Station Road in Melton, has replaced an existing, aged building and is the new home for both Djerriwarrh Community and Education Services, CatholicCare and MiCare.
It will house key community services including employment and education services (such as vocational student and adult classes), migrant and refugee settlement support, family violence support programs, and neighbourhood house activity programming.
The mayor said the new centre was well-placed to meet local needs.
“This centre has been tailored to the needs of the Melton community. I’m confident it will help ensure some really positive outcomes for local residents.
“Having another place where we can support people in key areas such as employment, health, and social inclusion is so important, especially as our community continues to rapidly grow.
“I’m proud to see the centre open and I thank the State Government for helping to make this a reality.”
