Moyne Shire Council, Victoria, has launched its new online gallery, encouraging people to enjoy exhibitions from the region’s best young artists from the comfort of their home.
The Moyne Virtual Gallery (MVG) has been designed to replicate the real-world experience of visiting a gallery, presenting a range of works by young local creatives in an online and interactive space.
Mayor, Daniel Meade, said that the online experience was initially developed as part of Council’s response to the pandemic, and in line with its Youth Strategy, addressing a need for young people to be more engaged and helping to promote young artists.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has restricted many of our young people from exercising their creative talents and reaching their audience.
“Moyne’s new online gallery not only provides an innovative opportunity for local artists to enhance their profile, but it also plays an important role in supporting the local arts sector and highlighting the diversity of our region.”
“The online platform allows visitors to engage with the artwork and journey through a realistic virtual gallery, with high resolution images, pre-recorded shows and other exhibits, all at the click of a button.”
The gallery’s inaugural exhibition, the Warrnambool and Moyne Youth Showcase, features a range of creative talents from young artists and performers from the municipalities.
“We have launched with over 100 pieces in the gallery, including works from fine artists, photographers, multi-media artists, performers, musicians, singer/songwriters and a ceramicist.
“And there’s more to come, with new shows set to launch in the MVG, including the Generational Journey collection which celebrates Indigenous artists from the Guditjmara/ Maar Nation region.
“The south-west region is home to many talented young artists and performers, and Council is thrilled to help deliver an exciting line-up of experiences in the MVG that showcases their passion and highlights their creativity.”
