The 2014 Lake Macquarie International Children’s Games have been full of fierce competition with athletes competing in football, swimming, sailing, athletics and water polo, as well as BMX, which has been included in the International Children’s Games for the first time.
Mayor of Lake Macquarie, Cr Jodie Harrison, said she is pleased with how the competition has unfolded throughout the week.
“There are so many talented sportspeople here competing in the Games.
“It has been wonderful to see all of the athletes compete in their sports, striving to beat their personal bests and win a medal for their City.”
The athletes have been treated to an Australian experience at the close of the games, swimming at Blacksmiths Beach and eating meat pies and sausage rolls.
“The expression on some of the children’s faces as they walked onto the sand and dipped their feet in the water for the first time was priceless and something I will never forget.
“I hope the athletes have had a delightful time in Lake Macquarie and formed memories and friendships they will cherish forever.”
