IPWEA Queensland Excellence Awards 2015*

For over 13 years the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia Queensland Division (IPWEA Queensland) has been showcasing the achievements of Local Council Engineers and Public Works Professionals.

The IPWEA Queensland Excellence Awards celebrate excellence in the innovation, development, completion and management of public works projects and remind the community of the valuable work of local councils.

“It can be easy to overlook the achievements of councils and their employees as business as usual but the outcomes that are being delivered are very often innovative, value-adding and a demonstration of best practice,” IPWEA Queensland CEO, Suzanna Barnes-Gillard said.

Last year, the Sunshine Coast Council won the Overall Project Award for their Place+ Beerwah Public Domain Improvement Project, along with a project award for Asset Management and a High Commendation.

Council’s Director of Infrastructure Services,  Andrew Ryan, said that he and “Mayor Mark Jamieson saw these awards as a great recognition of the dedication and commitment shown by our passionate and hardworking staff and also demonstrated the benefits of staff working with our councillors, to develop partnerships with our local community and to deliver project outcomes that exceeded all expectations”.

Nominations are invited across a number of Project Award categories, including design and/or construction; innovation; road safety; asset management; water, waste water, sewerage and drought management and innovation.

The People Awards recognise personal achievement by a Young Engineer; Technical Officer; Works Supervisor; and Woman in Engineering and also award the Queensland Engineer of the Year.

Nominations are open now with details available at www.ipwea.org/queensland/excellenceawards.

Nominees will be invited to attend the Excellence Awards Gala Dinner in Mackay on Tuesday 13 October 2015, where the awards will be presented in front of representatives from Local and State Government and Consulting Engineers and Contractors.

Winning Councils are awarded a plaque for display, with the project proponent awarded a certificate.

Winners are promoted in a number of publications following the Awards Dinner.
