Making the most of sunny days

Alice Springs Town Council is making the most of the approximately 300 sunny days in Central Australia each year with solar installations at the Alice Springs Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

In March 396 solar panels were installed at the facility.

The 99kW system is expected to generate 184,000kWh each year, which is equivalent to that used by over 20 Alice Springs households annually.

The system will also save 145 tonnes of greenhouse gases annually and substantially reduce the facility’s power bill.

This second solar system further contributes to the facility’s existing 275 Heliocol solar collector panels installed in 2011.

From 2008 to 2013, Alice Springs Town Council was the lead proponent in the Alice Solar City project, installing three systems as part of that project.

Alice Springs Mayor Damien Ryan said “Council is pleased to say that we have many solar installations across our Council facilities, with the latest at the pool proving to be very efficient.

“Plus with access to live data on these systems available via Council’s website, we are bringing the community along with us on the solar journey. ”

The public can view all of the solar power produced by Council’s solar installations via an online web-portal at
