Video series celebrates history

The stories, experiences and memories of people who live or work in Penrith have been recorded for a short video series to celebrate Penrith’s Bicentenary.

The seven-part series features locals of all ages and backgrounds reminiscing about growing up in Penrith and sharing the places and things they love most about the City.

A number of well-known Penrith locals; Olympian Jessica Fox, Triple M Presenter Mark Geyer, Penrith Panthers General Manager Phil Gould, Federal Member for Lindsay Fiona Scott MP and Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres MP appear in the videos.

Penrith City Council is posting a video in the series on their Facebook page each week.

The final video of the series will be posted the week of the Bicentenary Festival in September.

Penrith City Mayor Councillor Ross Fowler OAM said this project revealed a personal side to Penrith’s history.

“When we talk about Penrith’s Bicentenary we tend to focus on the people who helped to establish the City some 200 years ago and while this is important, it’s not where the story ends.

“In their own special way, the people who live and work here have made, and continue to make, an enormous contribution to Penrith.

“The inquisitive, friendly, accepting and innovative nature of the people in our community has shaped the fabric of our City.

“This video series really highlights that history isn’t just what’s been written in a book.

“The story of Penrith is also made up of the personal experiences and memories of our local community.”

The first video in the series is currently available on the Penrith City Council’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/penrith.city.council
