Regional waste strategy, Too Good to Waste, has been recognised by Local Government NSW for effective communication.
The project took out the award for Excellence in Communication (in the Division D category) at the RH Dougherty Awards last week.
Coordinated by SHOROC and its partner councils – Manly, Mosman, Pittwater and Warringah – the communication campaign aimed to inform the community about Too Good to Waste, the strategy for managing the region’s waste and resource recovery.
Stakeholders of differing backgrounds united to adopt and deliver a regional strategy that identifies initiatives that go beyond council boundaries.
The judges said it was a “great campaign, well executed and a shining example of what can be achieved through ROCs and County Councils”.
SHOROC Vice President and Manly Mayor Cr Jean Hay said collaboration has been a key factor in the success of the campaign.
“SHOROC and our partner councils are leading the way in regional planning and advocacy and these awards recognise the effectiveness of our collaboration across the region.”
Judges also commended the “excellent use of shared resources and project expenses to deliver a meaningful and core service campaign”.
Mayor Hay said the accolade is a great honour for the region.
“We are justifiably proud of what we have achieved for this region and to be acknowledged by peers and leaders in local government is very satisfying.”
Mosman Council was also awarded an Excellence in Communication award for its ‘There’s no such thing as the dog poo fairy’ campaign.
