Launceston Aquatic’s location in East Launceston is arguably the best in the country. Sitting on top of Windmill Hill, the floor to ceiling window design takes advantage of the stunning views of the city, nearby mountains and the beautiful Tamar Valley.
What will surely be one of Australia’s best-positioned spas sits on the northeast side of the centre.
The Launceston Aquatic site has been synonymous with sport and community gathering since 1866 when the venue was first used for a new game from Melbourne – Australian Rules Football.
The site was also tested as the venue for the game of golf but the establishment of the East Launceston Bowling Club in 1915 was rather more successful.
The Windmill Hill Swimming Pool opened in 1957, proving so popular that it wasn’t uncommon for people to queue some distance down High Street on busy days.
The concrete of the original pool deteriorated beyond repair and it was closed in September 2007 to make way for the state-of-the-art Launceston Aquatic facility.
