National parks and leisure conference
You are invited to attend the Parks and Leisure Australia (PLA) National Conference to be held in Darwin from 13 to 16 September 2009 at the Holiday Inn Esplanade.
This conference is the main event that brings together members of the parks and leisure industry to network and educate people about the latest projects, practices and trends in the industry. It offers everyone from the policymaker through to the senior manager, practitioner and student a host of challenges and innovative ideas to discuss and workshop during the conference and to use back in the workplace.
This year’s conference will be thought provoking, with workshops and panel discussions giving a range of views from across the country. The theme is ‘Making Connections in the Top End’.
Over 60 speakers will cover topics including asset management, water management, open space planning, youth space development and more. Keynote speakers include Peter Kenyon, speaking on healthy and connected communities; Dr Greg Moore – valuing our parks and trees; Dr Leong Chee Chiew – Singapore’s developing garden city; and Dr Maria Marriner – involving Indigenous cultures in sport and recreation.
The conference will involve technical tours showing the various sporting facilities, parks, coastal reserves and leisure development in Darwin. These tours will cover many issues that councils across Australia are facing.
