Brisbane biodiesel trial reduces bus emissions*

Neumann Petroleum’s E-Gen biodiesel can significantly reduce vehicle emissions, according to preliminary results from the Brisbane City Council’s CitySmart Biodiesel Bus Trial. The trial replaced traditional diesel fuel with E-Gen biodiesel – a blend of 20 per cent organic fuel and 80 per cent petroleum diesel – in 25 Brisbane buses over a four month period.

General Manager of Neumann Petroleum, Charles Wright, said detailed analysis was already under way on preliminary results.

“Initial findings indicate a notable reduction in particulate emissions, such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and other harmful toxins,” he said. “More importantly, the results confirm that biodiesel can lead to significant reductions in pollution levels. Improvements have also been recorded through fuel consumption performance and no fuel related operational problems were encountered in any of the 25 buses during the trial.”

Mr Wright said the initial results proved that biodiesel would be a major weapon in the fight to ensure cleaner air.

E-Gen biodiesel is an organic fuel made from tallow and domestically grown oilseed products such as linseed, canola and cotton mixed with alcohol. It can be used in any existing diesel engine with little or no modifications.

“E-Gen is a safe, clean burning fuel that breaks down four times faster than traditional diesel,” Charles Wright said. “It also eliminates the black cloud associated with diesel engines.”

Neumann Petroleum, Australia’s largest independent fuel company, is leading the development of renewable fuels nationally.

“Neumann Petroleum is committed to renewable fuels and the environmental benefits they offer Councils, businesses and motorists,” Mr Wright said.
