Cities actually winning the war against graffiti*

Cities and Shires are realising that past, traditional methods of graffiti abatement are not beating graffiti but simply coping with the aftermath.

David Black from Gripsystems graffiti database tracking and Tripwire Rapid Apprehension Cameras has seen the results that cities desire. Tracking offenders and seeing instant arrests has been astounding for both local police and cities switching tactics.

“It really comes down to a change in thinking and moving to remove the cities worst offenders with determination,” David Black said. “Getting to the source of the problem is the key.

“In the past, graffiti teams have focused on rapid removal, volunteer efforts, graffiti kits and better contractors. While those efforts are proactive and commendable, the offenders continue on relentlessly.

“Cardinia Shire, Nillumbik Shire, Geelong and Boroondara are just a small sample of local councils netting real and measurable results, having an independent audit, a fully search ready GPS database and deploying our instant apprehension cameras which send images instantly to their police to apprehend in real time.”

Designed here in Australia, the Tripwire cameras and the free Gripsystems database is now used in three countries in major cities and towns with the same solid apprehensions Australian councils are enjoying.

The key is to capture all the removal data and put it into a decent, intelligent GPS database which can be shared with local police and neighbouring cities.

Post audit, all offenders are known, their damage documented, and then the cameras do their job.

“With the Grip database on a 12 month free trial allows all to enter into a shared intelligent system or have Tripwire provide that analysis for them as others do,” David Black said.

“Cities are now joining forces and helping their police combat the menace with determination, conviction and ensuring they are fully resourced.”
