Bells Reach is a custom-designed playground that sets a new benchmark in adventure play. Located in one of Stockland’s residential developments on the Sunshine Coast, Bells Reach Adventure Park provides exciting activities for all ages, with age-specific play areas and custom-designed equipment that create an unparalleled play experience for families and the community.
Bells Reach, which opened in February 2013, is set amongst the green spaces of the environmentally sensitive residential development. It features fluid open spaces and multi-level play equipment integrated with a custom-built landform that offers three-dimensional, 360-degree play.
The summit of the landform can be reached in a number of ways, including the layered climbing net and crow’s nest, hand and foot climbing cleats, rubber domes and mountaineering ropes, indented steps, or there is even a ramp, making it accessible for all ages.
Retreat from the summit is via a stainless steel multi-slide or an enclosed tunnel slide. A giant tunnel also runs through the landform, creating a passive play space and improved access to all areas of the playground.
Toddlers and young children can enjoy the dedicated area that is designed to encourage learning and socialisation with age-appropriate activities. The park also features recreational and retreat facilities for older children and adults, including a ping-pong table and handball and bocce courts.
Urban Play Director, Ben Urban, who was a key element in the playground’s design and installation, said Bells Reach represents a new standard in playground design.
“The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive,” he said.
“The location and layout of the park means kids can play day and night with their neighbours while still keeping close to home. And a huge part of the design focuses on encouraging kids to get up and active through challenging play.”
The design and construction of Bells Reach Adventure Park was a joint venture for Stockland Developments between AECOM and Eureka Landscapes, with all play equipment designed and supplied by Urban Play and Kompan.
