Towards 2015 – A Vision for the Future

A three stage multi million dollar project is underway to redevelop and revitalise three key sites within Mount Gambier, taking the City through to 2015. These redevelopments will play a vital role in expanding Mount Gambier’s social, community, economic and cultural infrastructure and support the preservation of Mount Gambier’s cultural and documentary heritage.

“The future of Mount Gambier is ours to share,” said Mayor Steve Perryman. “We need all residents to help to bring the vision for Mount Gambier 2015 to life – a vision for the future of our community.”

The Mount Gambier Library and Community Centre is the first in the series of three projects to be developed between now and 2015 that has revitalised Mount Gambier’s City Centre and provided a significant boost in local employment and investment in the area.

Mount Gambier’s $8.6 million new Library and Community Centre came in well ahead of time delivering a significant local economic boost as a result of the Australian Government’s Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan. Council expended a further $2 million on the car park, landscape, streetscape and stormwater management that adjoins the new Library.

$3.5 million was provided under the Australian Government’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP) for construction of the Library and Community Centre.

The Library and Community Centre is part of the $15 million ‘Mount Gambier – Vision for the Future Towards 2015’ plan, aimed at revitalising the City Centre of Mount Gambier, which is receiving $5 million from the RLCIP. The remaining $1.5 million from RLCIP has been allocated to the recently commenced $8.6 million Main Corner Development located nearby.
