Casey City Council is looking to embrace an environmental future for its community thanks to the Greener Futures Program.
Delivered by Mission Australia with funding from the Victorian Government, the Greener Futures Program provides opportunities for householders in Casey and neighbouring Greater Dandenong to have free devices installed in their homes that will help to save money on water, electricity and heating.
Greener Futures is available to families who rent or own their own home and have a Centrelink Health Card, Low Income Card or Pension Concession Card.
City of Casey Acting Manager Environment Warren Smith said the Greener Futures Program is aimed at middle and lower income families.
“It is designed to support them to lessen their impact on the environment while saving money on household bills,” he said.
“The Greener Futures program has been running successfully in Casey for more than four months and has recently been extended until 30 June 2011.
“The free service enables lower income families to reduce their costs in heating, water and electricity and ultimately reduce their carbon footprint.
“The City of Casey is one of the fastest growing communities in Victoria so we need to ensure that we act responsibly to preserve our environment for future generations.
The program assists the retrofitting of free products such as water saving shower heads, energy saving light bulbs and draught reducing products to keep homes warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
The Greener Futures program provides the following services:
- small cracks sealed in the main heated room
- draught reducing products installed
- light bulbs replaced with energy saving bulbs to save electricity
- new water saving shower heads installed.
