The Darling, the drought and the dust*

The Murray Darling Association invites you to take part in its 63rd National Conference and Annual General Meeting.

To be staged in Bourke from 12 to 15 September, this national event aims to provide a platform for discussion between Local Governments, industry providers, land owners and individuals with a concern for the Murray-Darling Basin.

This year’s theme, “The Darling, The Drought and The Dust”, will allow participants to explore the current basin wide situation and look at methods for more effective management of natural resources.

Opening with a Civic Reception hosted by Bourke Shire Council on the evening of 12 September, the conference will comprise one full day of presentations by a variety of speakers.

They include John Cobb, Assistant Minister for the Environment and Water Resources; Jeff Parish, Central Irrigation Trust; Daryl Green, Western Catchment Management Authority; and Mayor Dianne Thorley, Toowoomba City Council.

Day one will also offer a Partner’s Tour and will conclude with an Official Outback Dinner on the river bank under the stars, before the Annual General Meeting on 14 September.

The Post Conference Tour on 15 September will give participants an opportunity to view first hand the initiatives, resources and landscape of the host town, Bourke.
