Targeted training vital for skills development and enhancing efficiencies*

Creating the right learning solutions is essential for Local Government to optimise the effectiveness of its staff training programs.

Local Government faces a challenging future with static revenues and increased community expectations, highlighting the importance of retaining skilled staff and improving efficiency and effectiveness within the workforce.

Developing targeted training programs is essential for Local Government to meet its contemporary challenges, to upskill and retain valuable ‘hard to source’ staff and to
resolve the specific organisational needs of individual Councils.

UNE Partnerships provides a flexible approach to training in Local Government through our learning and development solutions.

As the education and training company of the University of New England, it is able to provide exceptional pathways through its vocational qualifications to university awards. UNE Partnerships provides a unique combination of educational excellence, business expertise and industry recognition.

UNE Partnerships’ ability to design innovative and individual programs is exemplified by the delivery of customised training packages for Wagga Wagga City Council and flexible delivery options for City Design, a business unit of the Brisbane City Council.

Wagga Wagga City Council enrolled 95 staff through one module from the Diploma of Business qualification.

The ‘Recruit, Select and Induct Staff’ module was specifically chosen to assist staff through a period of change and provide managers and staff with a consistent ‘best practice’ approach to these functions. UNE Partnerships incorporated Council forms and procedures to reinforce internal systems throughout the one day workshop delivery and assessment completed over a period of six weeks.

Brisbane’s City Design required flexible delivery options for its staff.

Participants enrolled externally in the Diploma of Project Management as distance students
and attend workshops in Brisbane to consolidate their learning and assist with assessment tasks.

“The public workshops provided participants with opportunities to network and share stories from different disciplines and work areas,” said James Charalambous from City Design, who has completed his Diploma of Project Management with UNE Partnerships.
