In the December edition of FOCUS we ran an article on Fremantle City Council committing to the Kyoto protocol. After much investigation, we have found that there is no register of other Australian Councils that have also committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through these principles.
With the aim of establishing an official record, Fremantle’s Councillor Jon Strachan is calling for Councils that have signed up, or are thinking of doing so to contact him directly.
“It would be great if a register could be kept of the commitment Local Government has made to adopt the Kyoto principles so we can join together to encourage others,” he said. “While it is important for each Council to make a commitment to reducing greenhouse gases, the real agent of change will come from a critical mass of Councils pulling together.”
To express your interest, or notify of your Council’s commitment, please contact Councillor Strachan at jons@fremantle.wa.gov.au or phone 0405 307 153.
