South Australian residents are finding it easier to contact their local Councillor following a Local Government Association of South Australia (LGASA) initiative to showcase them on the internet. LGASA has developed a statewide listing of local Council members linked from Council websites. The listing includes direct links to Council member contact details and photos and, in many cases, profiles of the member themselves.
LGASA President, Councillor John Rich, said Council members are committed to representing their communities and being as accessible as possible.
“This new statewide listing is a great resource for the public, providing an easy way for them to find out who their local Council member is and how to contact them,” he said.
Councillor Rich said the listing is part of a broader Council websites project, which brings together information from all Councils in one database.
“This is a powerful facility that allows us to direct members of the public to employment opportunities, latest news and media and Council member details,” he said. “Future developments include links to emergency contacts in Councils and a statewide listing of Council parks, gardens and ovals.”
Councillor Rich said around half of South Australian Councils already have Council member photos and details online, and most will have them online in the next two months.
Some Councils already featuring members’ photographs include Tumby Bay, Mitcham, Port Augusta, West Torrens, Loxton-Waikerie, Cambelltown, Mount Barker, Playford, Wattle Range and Port Adelaide Enfield. The listing can be found from www.lga.sa.gov.au/goto/councils
