Finance professionals taking care of business

The inaugural National Local Government Finance Professionals Conference will be held on the 7–9 May 2006 at the Novotel Northbeach in Wollongong. NSW is co-organising the Conference which will be in lieu of its State Conference, and will be held biennially. The theme for the National Conference is ‘Taking Care of Business’ and will provide an opportunity for General Managers/CEOs, Directors, Chief Finance Officers and Finance Managers from over 650 Councils nationally, to share their insights, skills and knowledge.

The conference will feature inspiring and informative speakers including:

  • Ric Charlesworth, former Captain of the Australian Hockey Team
  • Peter Baines, Detective Inspector of Operations, Forensic Services Group with the NSW Police Force
  • Peter Sheahan, expert on Generation Y
  • John Button, retired Federal MP
  • Terry McCann, reknown financial journalist
  • Paul Roos, AFL’s Sydney Swans Coach.

Over the two and a half day program, delegates will be able to participate in a variety of concurrent sessions that tackle current Local Government issues including recruitment, fleet management, infrastructure funding and PPPs. Another feature session will be the Great Debate on Triple Bottom Line Reporting – Is It All It’s Cracked Up To Be?

Always a highlight of the Conference is the formal dinner on Monday evening. This event is sponsored by Perpetual Investments with Patrick McMahon as the evening’s entertainment. The dinner will also include the presentation of the Dick Cahill Memorial Award which will be awarded to one of the five NSW Up and Coming Finance Professionals attending the conference.

From start to finish, the conference promises to be a stimulating and highly engaging event with something for everyone. The full conference program, including a registration form can be downloaded from www. lgmansw.com.au or by contacting Nicole Walker on (02) 9891 6788
