Mosman boosts service delivery with DataWorks Web integration*

Mosman Municipal Council is using its document management system, Avand’s DataWorks, to process and share information across core business applications, making it available for review on the Web almost as soon as it’s captured.

“What we’re aiming to do is make information available to staff immediately through DataWorks as soon as it’s captured,” said Kevin Nonweiler, Manager IT Services. “This would also allow us to make the information readily available to the customer, and introduce new services such as application tracking. For that we’re making extensive use of the Web as an information delivery portal.”

All incoming, internal and external information, including telephone calls and customer requests, is registered in DataWorks. Information is indexed and stored as either scanned images or in original electronic format and recalled quickly by staff for a multitude of Council business tasks and services. Kevin Nonweiler said the Web is playing an increasingly important role in the way Council shares and distributes information, especially since upgrading to DataWorks 3 and its Web capable functionality.

“With Web access, customers can access information online without ever having to come in to our offices,” he said. “Better still, now that we can publish information quickly given the synergies between DataWorks and our other core systems, customers can lodge applications, raise or view objections, or even track the progress of an application from a Web browser and the comfort of their own homes. This not only saves them time, but also saves our support staff time that can be used more productively to process applications, further improving service delivery back to the customer.”
