The Parramatta River foreshore was illuminated for two magical nights in June as Electric Nights brought interactive, electric artworks, performances and traditional Javanese street food to Parramatta.
Part of the International Symposium of Electronic Arts (ISEA 2013), Electric Nights featured five striking electronic artworks by some of the world’s most engaging and thought-provoking artists.
The Lord Mayor of Parramatta, Councillor John Chedid, said that he was proud to have this event, a hallmark of innovation and creativity, come to Parramatta.
“Parramatta is fast becoming a centre for innovation within many industries, including sciences, new media and the arts. In forming partnerships with local and international groups like ISEA, Parramatta is leading in the generation of creative ideas and projects that are developing a city of the future.
“The artworks were very interactive, which is a highlight of this event. You can have a chat with someone in central Java, Indonesia whilst enjoying a traditional Indonesian meal, or generate an artwork yourself by pedalling a bicycle to make sounds and pictures.
“At a time of year when people are often stuck at home, Electric Nights was a great family night out.”
Proudly presented by ISEA2013 and Parramatta City Council, this intimate exchange between cultures and cities dished up a live fusion of food, film and dance between Australia and Indonesia. A fleet of ‘gerobaks’ – traditional Indonesian food carts – was linked between Sydney and Yogyakarta (Central Java) through multi-channel video streaming, alongside in-cart video art and a multimedia dance environment.
