Manningham City Council, like all Local Governments, faces many conflicting pressures. The community seeks continual improvements in the delivery of services, while Council is under pressure to maintain prevailing rating levels and restrictions on the funding of infrastructure investments.
Developing asset management strategies that optimise resources, minimise costs and plan for renewals are a priority for most Councils. To achieve its evolving, strategic asset management goals, Manningham sought to replace an existing asset management software application with a new system that would enhance the delivery of life cycle planning and predictive modelling functionality across all of the Council. The solution needed to be technically sound, delivering operational and strategic capability, with reporting accessible via a user friendly interface. All service area assets and works needed to be accommodated within a single, corporate wide asset database.
After surveying the market for suitable tools, Manningham selected Hansen Technologies’ asset management software, AssetLife. Following a successful pilot, AssetLife was quickly installed and configured to manage Council’s assets and works. Historic data was extracted from Council’s existing asset management and finance systems, and migrated into AssetLife.
Significant value is being achieved from AssetLife shortly after implementation. For example, 100 year renewal profiles, based on condition and remaining life, were dynamically created to identify infrastructure renewal expenditure gaps and forecast Capital Expenditure Programs to meet the required asset renewal and refurbishment demands.
