A new era for local government contracting

Local Government Contracts Australia (LGCA) has recently been established and is ready to bring buyers a fresh new approach to council procurement and contract management. LGCA’s Managing Director, Michael Robinson, recognised the need for a platform that addresses the persistent challenges faced by councils and suppliers alike, based on his 20 years of industry experience working as a council buyer and more recently as a procurement consultant. LGCA operates nationally and is available to councils Australia wide.

Traditional tendering processes often create barriers for small and regional businesses, making it difficult for them to compete. This has led to LGCA’s mission to create and facilitate a fair, open, and competitive marketplace where all suppliers, regardless of size, have equal opportunities to secure work with councils. The company’s platform offers a streamlined approach, built on a deep understanding and experience working with local government.

LGCA has now introduced an innovative ‘request to qualify’ process, which replaces the traditional tender system. This process is open, ongoing, and inclusive, allowing suppliers to apply for registration at any time without the pressure of rigid deadlines. Once qualified, suppliers are included on the National Local Government Supplier Register (NLGSR) and eligible for procurement opportunities across Australia. In LGCA’s first week alone, more than 350 suppliers registered their interest, which has re-confirmed that there is a desire for competition in the industry to enable better outcomes for all stakeholders.

For councils and buyers, LGCA offers user-friendly access to the NLGSR and a diverse pool of qualified suppliers through the ‘buyer portal’ where there are no fees or charges for council. This portal simplifies the procurement process, allowing buyers to easily request and manage quotes, evaluate options, and make informed decisions.

LGCA invites clients to experience the difference by registering their interest as a Buyer, and is ready to raise the bar by working with councils to achieve what’s best for council, suppliers, and the local community and economy. To register, log into www.lgca.com.au or for more information, email info@lgca.com.au.
