Southern Cross University (SCU) offers a range of flexible study programs ideal for people wanting to upgrade their skills or looking for a career change.
The Bachelor of Legal and Justice Studies is a popular choice, providing a range of specialised majors including Local Government, commerce, employment and industrial relations and public sector law.
Head of School of Law and Justice, Professor Stanley Yeo, said the course, offered on campus or via distance education, attracts a large number of students from the Sydney area.
“It’s ideal for people who want to have a good working knowledge of the law, but don’t want to become a solicitor or barrister,” Professor Yeo said. “Any kind of law study is of benefit in most jobs these days.
“We have got good support mechanisms for distance education students and offer non compulsory weekend workshops as well as skills workshops to prepare students for university study.”
SCU also offers a range of Professional Development Units in the social sciences field, which can be completed as one off subjects or as part of a degree program.
Areas of study include politics, human resource management, human resource development, communication, community development, counseling, human services, and sociology.
All the social science subjects are offered by flexible delivery and can be completed at the student’s own pace up to a maximum of six months.
Social Science student liaison officer, Penny Young, said the subjects could be started at any time during the year and there was full support from academic staff.
