A leading exponent of Corporate Social Responsibility in the United Kingdom is visiting Australia in February to address leaders in the business, not for profit and government sectors. Deputy Chief Executive of UK based, Business in the Community, Peter Davies OBE, will speak at business breakfasts in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. He will also deliver a lecture in Canberra. The Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership will host these events.
Business in the Community (BITC) is a unique movement in the UK of 750 member companies, with a further 1,600 participating in Australian programmes and campaigns. Its purpose is to inspire, challenge, engage and support business in continually improving its positive impact on society. An independent business led charity with over 20 years experience, it is the largest and longest established organisation of its kind.
Companies join BITC because they recognise the value of integrating policy and practice and the internal dialogue it prompts. Membership provides a unique platform for collaborative action and dialogue to identify and address key challenges facing business and society, as well as an opportunity to connect with a network of international partners.
Peter Davies has been Deputy Chief Executive of BITC since 2000. He joined Business in the Community in 1996 as Managing Director responsible for the Employees in the Community campaign and for operations in the north of England. Since this appointment his responsibilities have included leading Business in the Community’s campaigning work in promoting corporate social responsibility (CSR) which has included business led campaigns on environment, education, homelessness, cause related marketing and diversity.
In Australia he will speak on CSR, with a particular focus on the way in which the not for profit sector, business and the government work in partnership in the United Kingdom to deliver improved social outcomes. His visit is part of an initiative by BITC to build a global alliance of organisations interested in CSR.
The Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership (the Partnership) was delighted to organise the speaking events during his visit to Australia. It provides an unparalleled opportunity to draw together leaders in business, the not for profit sector and government to hear about BITC’s impressive record of achievement and to raise awareness about the possibilities for CSR in Australia.
The Partnership is a group of prominent Australians drawn from the business and community sectors which advises and assists the Prime Minister on issues relating to community business collaboration. It works to foster corporate and individual social responsibility.
