An alliance of volunteers, corporations and Local Government has begun a targeted fight against graffiti in Melbourne’s west. Volunteers from the Lions Club of Altona began a clean up campaign on graffiti last month using new Council equipment valued at $3,500 in their anti-graffiti trailer.
Altona based chemical company, Qenos donated the trailer to the Police Community Consultative Committee and the Lions Club of Altona. The new equipment includes a high pressure hose donated by Council to help the Lions. Volunteers will be trained to use the equipment and the anti-graffiti trailer which will complement Council’s own graffiti cleaning program.
Hobsons Bay Mayor and Co-chair of the City Pride Advisory Group, Cr Bill Baarini, said the anti-graffiti trailer would ultimately make Hobsons Bay a cleaner municipality.
“I urge the community to support the Lions by taking responsibility to report any graffiti damage to Council,” Councillor Baarini said.
