The City of Casey, in partnership with Chisholm Institute, has developed a Virtual Campus for home based businesses as a result of consultation with the sector.
Manager Strategic Development, Halvard Dalheim, said the consultation showed that while small and home based businesses provided growing employment opportunities, small business people had limited opportunities to access training that can help them further develop their business.
“The Virtual Campus uses Internet technology to provide access to training and support online,” he said. “This training focuses on developing the skills to enhance businesses and therefore promote business, economic and employment growth.”
The campus will initially provide two courses – Undertake Business Planning and Promoting the Business – Marketing. As the project develops, further courses will be added, including networking and time management, financial planning, establishing a business and legal requirements.
These courses are supported by a learning community that includes campus practical workshops, access to business support agencies, online business mentoring and networking opportunities. It is helped by community business news, a library of business documents, communication facilities including text, audio and video chat about their business and services on offer.
