World City

Gold Coast is Australia’s seventh largest City and with over three million tourist visits per year, Australia’s tourist capital.

The most popular destination in Australia with international visitors, Gold Coast is very much a World City. As a larger ‘Super Council’, it is able to maximise this potential, realising that the eyes of the world are upon it, particularly our neighbours in the Asia Pacific region.

Tourism and tourism infrastructure balanced with environmental sustainability, economic development and regional growth, as well as lifestyle issues, meeting both the needs of local residents and ten times their number of visitors per year, are enormous challenges the new Council has eagerly taken on board.

In fact Council’s vision clearly affirms Gold Coast as a ‘World City’. As such, Council will be benchmarking its performance not only against Queensland and other Australian Councils but those in the Asia Pacific region and around the world.
