Best practice in waste management

Coffs Harbour City Council will host its second major waste management conference from 5-7 November 1997 at Novotel Opal Cove Resort, Coffs Harbour. This conference follows the successful 1996 event, which attracted 272 delegates from 85 Councils.

Waste 97 will explore strategic issues being faced in waste management, particularly the effect of the new Waste Management Boards in NSW and emerging trends in organic wastes. Case studies, best practice and industry views on a wide range of waste management issues will also be presented.

The conference will provide delegates with the opportunity to participate in one of three half day workshops, covering regional waste management, community education and environmental management systems. Conference Coordinator, Greg Freeman is confident the program will attract a wide range of delegates.

“We have developed strong themes on regional waste management, greenwaste, community education, the management of medical and hazardous wastes and the application of environmental management systems to waste management,” he said.

Quality speakers from Government, industry and consultancies will share their knowledge and experiences in these emerging fields of waste management.

“This conference has been designed to be practical, challenging and value for money,” Greg said. “The cost for the two day conference, half day workshop, all meals and two nights accommodation at Opal Cove Resort is only $800, a significant saving on what a delegate would pay at a comparable conference in a capital city.”

Waste 97 will also feature a comprehensive Trade Display, with over 20 exhibition booths anticipated. The major sponsors of Waste 97 are the Waste Service NSW, Cleanaway and NSW Environmental Protection Authority.

Any organisation or company requiring further information on sponsorship, trade displays or delegate registration, contact Greg Freeman on (02) 6658 0510.
