A property management software system called Property Plus, designed by Brighton City Council in Tasmania, is set to be marketed Australia wide. An agreement between CV Services International and Council to market the product was signed in September.
“We are well aware of the benefits to customer service, efficiency and ultimately cost savings of our solution where it has been deployed in Tasmania,” said Brighton Mayor Tony Foster. “So when CVSI approached us to partner and market the solution Australia wide we welcomed the opportunity.”
Brighton’s IT Department developed the system when it was decided that a PC based Information Technology solution for Council would provide a more user friendly system for staff.
While there were quality PC packages available for other Council functions, such as accounting and payroll management, there were none fitting the unique requirements of Local Government in the property management area. The alternative was to use out of date software, so Brighton designed its own!
In its initial application, the package addressed that fundamental raison d’être of all Local Government, namely dog registrations. From there it quickly grew to include receipting, rates, water meters, building registrations, septic tank registrations and sundry debtors. Launching Property Plus, Tasmanian Premier Tony Rundle, congratulated Brighton on its initiative.
“There is little doubt that Brighton has tapped into a very big niche market and it will not be long before the system is in use throughout Australia,” he said. “Property Plus fits with our open technology requirements to deliver an enterprise data management strategy,” said Martin Harwood, Managing Director CVSI, Australasia.
“This adds strength to our ‘best of breed’ solutions philosophy.” Already the system is being used by several Councils in Tasmania with strong interest being shown interstate. Brighton’s Property Plus won the 1996 Tasmanian Local Government Association’s Award and is a nominee for the 1997 National Awards.
