Victoria’s Hobsons Bay City Council is enjoying considerable productivity increases with help from an integrated Financial Management Information System (FMIS). The Computron Financial software was selected and installed following the Council’s formation in 1994. The new Council needed to review its financial management system in order to cope with Victoria’s Local Government CCT reporting requirements.
Council’s selection criteria were driven by the need to integrate their existing payroll, debtor and rates and cash receipting systems, to allow for future growth and development.
“Computron’s software is flexible and user friendly,” said Finance Manager, John Campigli. “It provides information for management and statutory purposes, with minimal effort, by the efficient recording of all associated data.”
The Computron software has also meant that Council is able to integrate its purchasing function with accounts payable. This, in turn, automates the purchase order matching process. Financial Accountant, Kathleen Worboys explained that the accounts payable section has become more efficient and is able to perform its tasks with fewer people.
“The software’s inbuilt tracking mechanism allows our finance department to report on the status of all invoices received,” she said. “The end of month report is available just a week after ‘end of month’, whereas the previous system would generate the end of month reports four weeks later.”
There has been a 25 percent productivity increase with regards to reporting. The reporting process has also become a lot more flexible with the wider choice of report formats available.
“From a technical perspective, as the software supports an NT platform, it meant we could minimise the administration overheads for the IT department, as NT is the preferred network operating system for most Council applications,” said Lidia DiBlasi, IT Project Manager.
