Recognising self improvement

Established in 1945, the prestigious Bluett Awards recognise the pioneering contribution to Local Government in New South Wales by Albert Bluett . Albert Bluett served as the Secretary of Local Government and Shires Associations for 34 years.

The Awards are given to Councils that have achieved the most valued, or greatest relative progress, over the previous 12 month period. This means Councils are judged according to their achievements at the conclusion of the 12 month period compared to their position at the beginning.

The 1997/98 Awards were presented at the recent Local Government Association Annual Conference at Coffs Harbour. The winner of the Local Government Association Award was Baulkham Hills Shire Council, while Cowra Shire Council took out the Shires Award.
