Bonus NCP funding

Hard work by Council’s Finance section and business units has earned more than half a million dollars of Federal Government funding for Maroochy Shire Council.

Maroochy’s advanced implementation of National Competition Policy is the principal reason for the bonus. Council has received $1,319,250 from the State Government under the NCP Financial Incentive package. This brings the total received for the 1998/99 year to $1,679,600. It is $679,000 more than the $1 million Maroochy expected and budgeted.

Under the package, Maroochy can receive a maximum of roughly $5.58 million dollars over the next five years. However, the amount actually received will be dependent on its progress in establishing business activities and applying National Competition Policy.

The proportion of funding received to date, 30% of the maximum, is one of the highest received by a Local Government in Queensland. “This means that we are one of the most advanced Councils in Queensland in applying business practices and NCP principles to our service provision areas,” said Chief Executive Officer Kelvin Spiller.

He said the bonus for the organisation can be attributed to the considerable work undertaken by Maroochy’s Chief Financial Officer Ray Turner and Council’s business units, particularly Maroochy Water Services.
