Easy to spot a clean dog bins

Since the introduction of the NSW Companion Animal Act 1998 dog owners and Councils have new obligations to meet.

Councils must provide suitable receptacles in which owners can place dog litter wherever dogs are regularly exercised. This includes most public parks. The choice of the right receptacle may make the difference as to how well the Act is met and parkland amenity improved.

Spot a Clean DogTM collection bins have been specifically designed to look attractive in parkland settings while clearly indicating their purpose to dog owners. The bins are painted green, to blend with parkland settings, and feature a dog on the entry chute. They come equipped with an inner disposal unit which keeps the bin clean and ensures easy, efficient pick up of the contents.

Designer Recreation And Open Space with Concord Council, Karin Schicht, said the City has recently placed Spot a Clean Dog bins in their leash free areas. “We are now preparing signs with a positive message to encourage people to use the bins,” she said. “We do not want to take a regulatory approach, we would prefer people to use the bins voluntarily because they improve the amenity of the parkland for everyone.”

Sonia Szczur from Council’s Waste Services said Council chose these bins because of their appealing style and colour. “The bins looked different to the general waste bins in the parks,” she said. “This means it is easy for dog owners and others to recognise the bins and use them effectively.”

Designed and manufactured in Sydney, the bins retail for $550, with discounts available for bulk orders.
