Young riders bike around Australia

Children learning to ride bikes will soon be able to learn more about their country through a new bike track being built in Victoria’s City of Casey.

Centenary of Federation funding to the tune of $20,000 will enable the construction of the new track which will be fashioned in the shape of Australia. As they ride around the concrete paths children will find new information about various parts of Australia.

At the site of each Capital City, information will be available about that City and its environs. Places of interest and the flora and fauna will also be featured together with signage indicating the distance between each capital city.

Information about the Federation of Australia will be provided in time for the centenary of Federation, giving the young users an early, fun introduction to the study of Civics.

Manager Community Access at the City of Casey, Russell Hopkins, said the new track is based on a facility in Sydney, which provides learn to ride facilities in a park setting and offers parents 100% visibility.

“We not only wanted to develop a facility that allows children to learn to ride bikes in safety, we also sought to make it unique by providing an interpretive and interactive educational function.” Russell Hopkins said. He said the track will provide a suitable ‘monument’ to celebrate the centenary of Federation.
